Woman Fined $500 in Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Prosecutors say a woman charged with texting while driving has been fined $500 for an accident that killed a motorcyclist.

Twenty-one-year-old Elizabeth Meyers of Severn pleaded guilty on Monday to negligent driving in the accident that killed 30-year-old Jonathan Wesley Roberts of Aylett, Va.

Meyers had been charged with several offenses, including negligent manslaughter and text messaging while driving, after the crash in Gambrills on March 10, 2013.

A spokeswoman for Anne Arundel County state's attorney office says the police investigation since the accident let to conflicting evidence, which resulted in the plea. Meyers' lawyer said the sentence was consistent with the facts.

Authorities say Meyers was trying to drive across Route 3 and drove into the path of Roberts' motorcycle.

The location of a new waterfront hotel that recently broke ground in Ocean City is raising some eyebrows with neighbors in the downtown area.

The Cambria Hotel is being built in the vacant lot that sits just north of the Route 50 drawbridge, meaning it will be one of the first things drivers see headed into town.

Brian Plimack, who lives just behind the development, said the hotel is too much of a drastic change to the town's skyline.
