Storm Brings Flooding, Outages to Mid-Atlantic

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (AP/WBOC)- A storm dumping heavy rain is complicating travel and knocking out power in the mid-Atlantic region.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood watches and warnings around the region through Friday afternoon. For Delmarva, a flash flood warning is in effect for southern Queen Anne's and Talbot counties until 2:15 p.m.

Emergency officials reported rescues of motorists stranded in high water and flooded roads were reported in low-lying areas including Annapolis' waterfront in Maryland, Old Town Alexandria in Virginia and along Rock Creek in Washington.

The Maryland Transit Administration suspended MARC's Brunswick line service because of trees on the track and says the Penn line is delayed by a minor mudslide in Baltimore.

Utilities in Maryland are reporting about 3,400 customers without power. Delmarva Power is reporting more than 260 customers without power on Kent Island. Dominion Power is reporting about 650 customers in the dark in northern Virginia.

Some area Bike to Work Day events were canceled because of the weather.
