Woman Killed In Single Vehicle Crash Near Ellendale

Posted:
ELLENDALE, De.  – A 68-year-old Milton woman was killed in a crash on Milton Ellendale Highway (Del. 16) this afternoon. The crash occurred at 5:30 p.m. as Elizabeth Welch drove a 2005 Toyota 4Runner east on Milton Ellendale Highway, east of Orchard Road. For an unknown reason, the vehicle veered off of the south edge of the roadway and traveled over 300 feet on a grassy area along the road before striking a tree.

Welch, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Milford Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived. She was properly restrained at the time of the crash. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.

Milton Ellendale Highway was closed for approximately two hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
