GREENWOOD, Del. (AP/WBOC) - Delaware Electric Cooperative is increasing supply rates for the first time in six years.

The co-op's board voted unanimously to approve the increase on Wednesday night. The co-op, based out of Greenwood, serves 84,000 customers in Kent and Sussex counties.

The increase raises supply charges on customer bills from 1.56 cents per kilowatt hour to 2.4 cents per kwh. The increase in summer rates means an extra $8.40 on the monthly bill of a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month.

The increase is being driven by higher costs from the co-op's power supplier, Old Dominion Electric Cooperative.

The increase takes effect on June 1.

For additional information about the increase, call (302) 349-3147.
