Classmates Honor Va. Teen by Wearing Tie-dye

PURCELLVILLE, Va. (AP) - Students at a Loudoun County high school plan to wear tie-dye to school in honor of a fellow student who was shot by police over the weekend.

Students at Loudoun Valley High School will wear tie-dye on Tuesday to honor 17-year-old Christian Alberto Sierra.

Authorities say Sierra was shot on Saturday after a police officer was called to a home in Purcellville for a report that the teen was threatening suicide.

The Virginia State Police, which is investigating the shooting, says a police officer fatally shot Sierra when he lunged at the officer with a knife.

A family member who answered the phone Sunday at Sierra's home but didn't want to give her name said the family believes the incident could have been handled differently.
