CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia's acting mental health commissioner plans to retire on Sept. 1.

John Pezzoli said that his wife will retire this summer and they are looking forward to starting a new chapter. He says that includes traveling to visit the couple's daughters.

The 68-year-old Pezzoli is chief deputy commissioner at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. He has served as acting commissioner since James Stewart II retired in January.

Pezzoli announced his retirement Tuesday in an email addressed to friends and colleagues.
