Pair of Burglaries Probed in Dewey Beach

DEWEY BEACH, Del.– Delaware State Police are investigating a pair of similar burglaries that occurred early Tuesday morning within a three-block radius in Dewey Beach.
Police said first incident was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Swedes Street after the 21-year-old female victim was awakened to the sound of an intruder. Troopers said the suspect, who was described as a white male, standing approximately 6-foot-tall, with short hair, was in the victim’s bedroom and fled upon being detected with the victim’s purse and cellphone.
While troopers were investigating the first complaint, another call was received by Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (9-1-1) less than an hour later from a man who reported an intruder was inside his home on the 21000 block of Elizabeth Avenue.  It was determined through this investigation that a similar description of a white male had entered the house and was observed in the 40-year-old male victim’s bedroom where he and his wife were sleeping.  The wife woke to the sounds of the intruder who then alerted her husband and gave chase to the suspect who ran out of the home and jumped a neighbor’s fence, continuing southbound toward Dewey Beach. Police said that in this case, the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the male victim’s wallet and the female’s purse.
