Four Properties in Crisfield Heading to the Auction Block

Posted:
CRISFIELD, Md.- It is an opportunity that is hard to miss for anyone interested in developing a few properties in Crisfield.  Four commercial properties are heading to the auction block June 12 at 1 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott in Salisbury.

The properties include the former Clarence Sterling & Son Hardware and the former Forbush Hardware& Sons on West Main Street. The Somers Cover Motel and a vacant waterfront lot on Seventh Street will be up for grabs as well.

Max Spann Real Estate and Auction Company will sell the properties at the auction.  All four properties were purchased between 2005 and 2006 when real estate hit its peak in Crisfield.

When Jane Kelly looks at the two empty hardware stores, she sees more than just vacant properties. Kelly said the stores opened the year she and her husband got married and moved to Crisfield.

"In fact my husband worked at the Forbush hardware store, which is now Gunter Hardware, and we're really going to miss it," Kelly said.

Kelly hopes the stores will one day reopen.

"There's not really any hardware stores now in Crisfield, like everything else, you almost have to go out of town to get a piece of paper, or anything relating to the hardware," Kelly said.

Allison Powers, who lives in Crisfield, thinks the auction is a good idea. She said she wants to see the properties redeveloped.

"This is an economically depressed area,” Powers said. “The town does need some help; it needs some revitalization.”

“I think it would bring some new business in and attract some tourists here; make Crisfield what it could be," Powers said.

Each location will be open from noon until 2 p.m. tomorrow, May 29th , for previews.
