GEORGETOWN, Del.- When 9-year-old Lenny Perez Rivera found out he was going to the World Cup in Brazil this June he couldn't believe it. He will get to see his favorite soccer player, Brazil's star player Neymar.

"I just ran, ran around the house, so excited," he said. "It has always been my dream to go."

Lenny's dream is being granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation after two very tough years for the second grader. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in the fall of 2012. After being in and out of the hospital for several years and missing many days of school, Lenny is now in remission. His parents are very grateful.

His father, Cecilio Perez Sanchez, said he is also thankful for this generous gift after such difficult times.

"At the beginning it was hard for us because we'd never seen this before, you know its leukemia, it's cancer, it's tough, it's hard," he said. "And here we're at now, with Lenny better, and he's smiling, he's in school now, so the family's happy."

Lenny's family said the support he has received from his classmates and teachers at North Georgetown Elementary School has been immeasurable. Lenny's class even surprised him with a flag of Brazil, a going away present signed by everyone.

Lenny's older brother, Ronaldo Perez, is also a big soccer fan, and said he loves seeing Lenny follow in his footsteps.

"I'm doing everything I can to make him happy and I just want to support him with everything he does and goes through," he explained.
Sanchez said these past few years have been hard for his family.

"Sometimes we lose the faith, sometimes I was looking down," he said. "But most of the time I look up, in the future"
And now the trip of a lifetime is in that future.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation Mid-Atlantic Chapter, which covers Maryland and Delaware, granted more than 350 wishes last year alone. To donate to the foundation, head to http://midatlantic.wish.org/
