Va. U.S. Senators Seek VA Secretary's Resignation

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia's Democratic U.S. senators are calling on Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shineski (shin-SEHK'-ee) to resign.

Thursday, Sens. Timothy M. Kaine and Mark R. Warner joined the growing number of lawmakers calling for Shineski's resignation.

Shinseki faces calls to resign from Republicans and Democrats in Congress because of an escalating scandal about problems in the VA's nationwide health care system.

The White House says President Barack Obama is waiting for a full investigation into the Department of Veterans Affairs before deciding who to hold responsible.

Warner says he's "outraged" by the lack of care to the nation's veterans. Kaine said Shineski's departure is the only way to regain the confidence of veterans.
