Rehoboth Beach Tops Kid-Friendly Beach List

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Rehoboth Beach was picked four out of five more most kid-friendly East Coast beach in 2014.
The ABC Travel Guide, a travel guide for children, picked the Delaware beach town for its restaurants, stores, boardwalk and bandstand. Rehoboth was beat out by Atlantic City, Miami Beach and Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Coming in fifth was the Outer Banks, North Carolina.
Jeff Balk, owner of 74-year-old Rehoboth Beach candy store Snyder's said he isn't surprised, and credits stores like his for the top honor.
"So people that grew up as a child and are now in their 70's or 80's are bringing their grandchildren," he said. "It's fun for me to be a part of it, to be able to have an experience and a destination for kids and adult kids as well to come to the beach and have a great time and to go home with some good memories, there's a lot of memory in candy."
But it's not just candy that draws kids in. Joel and Jennifer Margavage have two young children and live in Rehoboth Beach, and they said they wouldn't live anywhere else.
"It's a fantastic place, it's very clean and it's family-friendly and there's lots of rides for the kids and plenty of exciting activities to do," Joel Margavage said. "We love it."
"Yeah it's great, we love Funland, kids love the rides there, walk the boardwalk," Jennifer Margavage added.
While Rehoboth Beach wasn't voted number one most kid-friendly, many people said they think it should have been.  Others think is should be best all-around. Like the Ingrams, who visit all the way from upstate New York.
"Yeah it is a great place to come," Chris Ingram explained. "The beach is fantastic, it's kid friendly, it's friendly oriented and we have enjoyed it just as a couple too."
And it's no doubt, kids love it too.
"My brother says when he grows up he wants to live here and be a teacher so he can take the summers off and come to the beach," Caroline Bogle said.
Rehoboth Beach also recently banned smoking completely on the boardwalk, bandstand and beach, adding to the already family-friendly atmosphere.
