UPDATE: Woman Identified in Fatal Crash Near Bridgeville

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - Delaware State Police have identified the woman killed in a crash near Bridgeville early Sunday morning. She's been identified as 58-year-old Nancy Nelson, of Denton, Maryland.

State Police say the crash occurred just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday on Route 13, north of Camp Road. Police say 21-year-old Garrett Cordrey, of Newark, was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 south in the northbound lanes when his vehicle collided with a northbound 2006 Honda CRV, which was traveling in the left northbound lane of Rt. 13.

Police say after the collision, Cordrey's vehicle went off the road and the CRV rotated 180 degrees before stopping facing south in the right northbound lane. Police say the CRV was then hit by a northbound 1996 Freightliner tractor trailer, which flipped, spilling its load of wood chips. Police say while this occurred, one other vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire, sustained damage by hitting debris in the road.

Police say Cordrey and the driver of the Crossfire, 28-year-old Kyle Thompson of Salisbury, Md. were not injured. Police say the driver of the tractor trailer, 62-year-old Howard West, of Seaford, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police say Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say all drivers involved in this collision were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this crash. Police say no charges have been filed.

Both lanes of Route 13 between
Seashore Highway (Del. 404) and Camp Road were closed for several hours.

'Ghost Pots' Hurting Chesapeake Bay's Blue Crab Population

Crabbing season is well underway, and that means hundreds of thousands of crab pots are in the Chesapeake Bay catching blue crabs.

Every morning during crabbing season, you can see watermen gathering up their pots, collecting their catch, and putting the pots back in the water. What you cannot see is the problem: pots that have had their lines severed sit on the bay's bottom, sometimes never seen again, along with the crabs inside them.
