LONG NECK, Del.- Delaware State Police and Georgetown police on Monday night arrested a man wanted in connection with an assault that occurred last month at the Classic Motel.

Police said that an investigation into the May 16 assault revealed Andre L. Daniels, 26, was involved in a confrontation with a 39-year-old male victim. Police said that during this confrontation, Daniels struck the victim with an unknown object in the left eye. They say it apparently happened in front of the victim's two children.

Police obtained arrest warrants for Daniels. State troopers received a tip that Daniels was staying in a home in the Long Neck area. On Monday night, Georgetown police, along with several Delaware State Police units, responded to Long Neck Boulevard. They said Daniels was inside an apartment with his girlfriend, Tameka Smith, 27, of Long Neck. Police knocked on the door numerous times but they said both refused to come out. After two hours, the two surrendered with no further incident.

Daniels was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of bond with a future court date.

Smith was charged with hindering prosecution and released on an unsecured bond with a future court date.
