PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (WBOC/AP) - A University of Maryland Eastern Shore student has won an at-large seat on the Princes Anne Town Board of Commissioners.

Lionel Frederic, 23, upset incumbent Commissioner and former Town Manager Jay Parker in the town election Tuesday by of a vote of 127 to 93.

Election chairwoman Kelly Salyers says Frederic is the youngest elected town official in memory.

Frederic won despite critics who pointed out his run-ins with law enforcement. He served three weekends in county jail in 2012 after a traffic conviction for driving without a license and eluding. Separately, he paid $500 in fines for a charge of marijuana possession. Frederic has said he has moved on from his past.

Frederic is a senior biology major at UMES.
