ICE: 22 Criminal Immigrants Arrested on Md.'s Eastern Shore

SALISBURY,  Md.- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say 22 convicted criminal aliens were arrested this week during a three-day fugitive enforcement operation on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Officials said that during the operation, which wrapped up Thursday, a total of 27 people were taken into custody: seven immigration fugitives who ignored lawful orders of removal, eight people who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported and 12 other immigration violators.

Of those arrested, 22 had criminal histories including assault, battery, burglary, child endangerment, counterfeiting, disorderly conduct, DUI, heroin possession, prostitution, resisting arrest and theft, officials said.

Officials said the arrests occurred in the following communities: one in Eden; 11 in Easton; one in Fruitland; two in Ocean City; two in Ocean Pines and 10 in Salisbury. Arrestees ranged in age from 20 to 57, officials said.

Investigators noted that in instance, one individual, a 57-year-old citizen and national of Jamaica- who is an aggravated felon convicted cocaine distribution and habitual offender- was arrested Thursday on an outstanding order of deportation.

Twenty-four men and three women arrested during this operation were reportedly from Brazil, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico and Nepal.
