WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center is among 112 nationwide flagged for further review of lengthy wait times for medical appointments.

The institution was listed in a report the agency released Monday. A spokesman at Wilmington didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

The report says 41 patients are still awaiting initial medical appointments at Wilmington 90 days or more after requesting them. Another 175 who requested appointments after enrolling in the system over the past decade have never gotten one.

The report says 3 percent of appointments at Wilmington are scheduled beyond 30 days, compared with 4 percent at VA facilities nationwide.

The VA says an audit of 731 facilities found that the agency's complicated appointment process created confusion among scheduling staff.
