Fruitland Man in Critical Condition After High-Speed Chase

FRUITLAND, Md.- Authorities say a Fruitland man is in critical condition after he crashed his motorcycle during a high-speed police chase.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office reports around 8 p.m. Sunday, a deputy attempted to stop a 2003 Suzuki GSX51000 on Beaglin Park Drive for a traffic violation.

Investigators said that is when the operator, Rodney Earl Jarvi 2nd, accelerated northbound past the deputy in the area of Beaglin Park Drive and Outten Road and turned right through a steady red signal onto Zion Road.

According to police, Jarvi proceeded eastbound on Zion Road at a high rate of speed toward Forest Plains Lane. The deputy observed the motorcycle pulling away until the deputy could no longer see the bike in the area of Zion and Brown roads, police said.

The deputy reported being approximately a half-mile behind the motorcycle when a cloud of white dust in the area of Zion and Zion Church roads could be seen.

The deputy arrived at the scene of the crash and observed Jarvi in a ditch and the motorcycle approximately 20 feet in a field. The deputy provided care for Jarvi until emergency services arrived on scene.

Jarvi was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Maryland State Police are assisting with the crash investigation.
