RICHMOND, Va. (AP/WBOC)- Virginia has launched a new website to provide information on road projects across the state.

The Virginia Department of Transportation portal, virginiaroads.org, features interactive maps that show latest paving conditions, paving schedules and construction projects.

Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne says that a good transportation program depends on VDOT providing clear information that is relevant and available to the public. He said the portal turns complex data into knowledge, allowing the public to become more engaged with their transportation program.

The site also includes real-time traffic information, truck routes, park and ride lots, the status of snow plowing and even National Geographic maps.
