Senators return home for final goodbye

DOVER, Del.- Dover high school grads are returning home for a final goodbye Thursday evening to kick off their epic school reunion.

All alumni from all classes are invited to say goodbye to the old Dover High School for the last time.

It’s a four-day reunion starting with an open mic night Thursday evening at Frazier’s Restaurant in Dover.

Signs have been plastered all over the city of Dover welcoming all alumni back home for the last time.

Sean Christiansen got the opportunity to walk the halls of the Old Dover High School just like he did nearly two decades ago.

“I’m truly blue and white and a Senator all over,” said Christiansen.

Dover High School is where he met his wife of now 13 years. Together, they are excited to be “coming home” to this year’s epic school reunion.

“We plan on walking some of the halls that we walked together, taking a selfie one or two in places we actually stood and hung out between classes,” said Christiansen. “During the activities, we’re going to share that with our children.”

Jean Thornburg-Taylor says it was when she heard of the new Dover High School opening up in the fall, she and another alum, Rob Kellam teamed up with Commissioner Allan Angel to put together the reunion.

“It’s just very important for people to have the opportunity before this building is torn down to say thank you for those memories,” said Thornburg-Taylor. “Thanks for the good, the bad and whatever else to make me who I am today and now lets move forward and make new memories at the new building.”

Although excited for the moment, for many this reunion is bittersweet.

“There are just so many vivid, live memories that are going to be gone when this school goes on,” said Angel. “That’s the only thing we’ll have left. Is just the memories of this school.”

With their final goodbye, a new chapter begins for Dover High Senators.
