Two More Shorebirds in this Year's All Star Game

Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- There will be several new additions to the All Star roster of the South Atlantic League. Among them will be two more Shorebird players.

Trey Mancini and Dylan Rheault will be joining their other five teammates who have previously been chosen for the game in Hickory.

Mancini has the team’s best batting average at .317, ranking him seventh in the league. He’s the team’s first baseman and has played in nearly all of the 69 games played, only missing one. His 85 hits rank him second in the league behind Wilmer Difo of Hagerstown.

During the first 18 games of the year, he was only batting .208. He increased his batting average through the month of May, batting .373. In June, he had a 17 game hitting streak where he batted .429 with 11 several hits in a span of three weeks. Mancini also reached base safely in 29 consecutive games. It was the longest streak in the South Atlantic League season.

He is also the Oriole’s eighth round pick of 2013, and the second player on the Shorebird’s with 42 RBIs.

Dylan Rheault was another key player for the Shorebird’s. He has 16 relief appearances with a 3.41 ERA along with two saves on his behalf.

In April Dylan recorded the first save of his professional career, which helped Delmarva clench their first win of the season. In the same month he had five relief appearances. By May he pitched 12 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. This lowered his ERA to 0.98 for a moment.

Delmarva has seven slots in this year’s contest. It will be the most players for Delmarva since 2005.

The North and South divisions are scheduled to compete at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the L.P Frans Stadium in Hickory, N.C.
