PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Authorities say a firefighter was injured while battling a late Wednesday afternoon fire that left a Princess Anne home in ruins.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out shortly before 4 p.m. at the property located at 12656 Eby Road. According to investigators, the occupant was burning a brush pile and left it unattended. The fire then spread to a 30-foot by 40-foot shed, before further spreading to the adjacent one-and-a-half story single family home.

It took 45 firefighters from the Princess Anne, Crisfield, Marion, Deal Island, Mt. Vernon, Salisbury Station 1, Fruitland, Allen and Hebron fire companies approximately two hours to get the fire under control.

Investigators said seven firefighters had to be treated on the scene for heat exhaustion, and one firefighter sustained heat-related injuries.

The fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damage to the home and another $150,000 in damage to its contents.
