Stinnett Makes ABCA All-Region Team

Updated:

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland right-hander Jake Stinnett has been selected a second team member to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region team, the association announced Wednesday.

Stinnett, who was selected in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs, finished the regular season with an 8-6 record and a 2.67 ERA, while posting single-season Maryland records for strikeouts (132) and innings pitched (118.0). Stinnett’s 132 Ks is also the top mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranks fifth nationally.

The native of Vista, Calif. recorded an ACC-best four complete games including a league-leading two shutouts during the 2014 season. Additionally, Stinnett threw the first of three no-hitters in the ACC this season on March 1 when he blanked Massachusetts. A week after throwing a one-hitter against Bryant, Stinnett struck out nine en route to becoming the first Maryland pitcher to toss a no-hitter since Scott Swinson in 2008.

This past season, Stinnett earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors four times. The four weekly honors is the most by an ACC player since NC State’s Mike Rogers accomplished the feat in 2004.
