Couple Rents Property for Firefly Campers

Posted:

DOVER, Del. -  A Dover couple rented out their property for Firefly campers.

Bob Wambold and his wife live right next to Dover Downs, and rent out their property for race weekends. A few years back, they decided to also rent out space for campers during the Firefly Music Festival.

"They book it in advance. The ones that are here have been coming for probably three years since it started," Wambold said. "The same ones keep coming back because they like it here so much."

Ron Steele is one of those people.

"This is definitely the premier camping," he said. "This is where you need to be."

Steele and his friends spend their mornings barbecuing and playing games. Wambold likes to get involved too.

"We call him Firefly daddy because he keeps us all in line," Steele explained. "He loves it too."

Lindsay Haddox is new this year, and said she is grateful that the Wambolds had a place to stay.

"I had a Firefly ticket, plans went astray and I ended up coming with them and finding this place," she said. "It was wonderful."

"Kids need a place to stay, so I decided to give them a place to stay that's clean," Wambold said. "They can have fun and nobody gets in trouble."

And it's not just a place to stay, the Wambolds also bring a live local band, Shades of August, to entertain their guests in the morning.

These Firefly nomads spend the mornings at the Wambold's home and then spend the late afternoon and night enjoying the music. But no matter what, they always want to come back to their "Firefly family."
