No Additions for Wizards; Clarkson Sent to Lakers

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Wizards have bowed out of this year's NBA draft after trading the rights of their second-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Wizards selected guard Jordan Clarkson from Missouri at No. 46 overall Thursday night. Clarkson was then sent to the Lakers for cash.

The Wizards didn't have a first-round pick. They traded it to the Phoenix Suns in October in the deal that brought center Marcin Gortat to Washington.

Team President Ernie Grunfeld said he was happy with the core group that just ended the franchise's long playoff drought. Led by the up-and-coming backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal, Washington made the postseason for the first time since 2008 and won a playoff series for the first time since 2005.
