DOVER, Del. – Authorities say three people were injured, including a 9-year-old girl, in a single-vehicle crash that occurred near Dover Air Force Base.

It happened Tuesday at 4:10 p.m. on US113 just south of Bayside Drive.

Delaware State Police said that for an unknown reason, a 2009 Honda Civic, driven by Satchel Edeen, 17, of New Jersey, swerved into the center median and hit an embankment. Police said the car overturned and hit a guardrail before coming to a stop on the northbound shoulder.

According to police, Edeen and the 9-year-old passenger, also from New Jersey, were not properly restrained and ejected from the car. Both were taken to Kent General Hospital. The 9-year-old girl was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Edeen was airlifted to A.I. DuPont and admitted in fair condition.

Police said an 18-year-old female, also from New Jersey, was properly restrained in the front passenger’s seat. She was also taken to Kent General and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Edeen was cited for inattentive driving, failure to maintain a single lane and improper child restraint.

Bay Road in the area of SR9 had lane closures for an hour and a half as the crash was investigated and cleared.
