Small Sworn in as New DNREC Secretary

David Small David Small

DOVER, Del.– David Small was sworn in Wednesday morning as the 10th secretary of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, a day after the state Senate confirmed his appointment to the post.

Small has served with DNREC for 27 years, which also includes positions on six cabinets during his career, according to authorities.

Small started at DNREC in 1987 as the chief of the Office of Information and Education, a position he held until 1998. He was then the secretary’s executive assistant from 1998 to 2001 and deputy secretary before being appointed, officials said.

Small has served in numerous committees, boards and clubs, and has promoted and implemented many policies and initiatives during his time with DNREC, such as state recycling and public reporting, officials say. He replaces former Secretary Collin O’Mara, who left to join the National Wildlife Federation as president and chief executive officer.
