Coast Guard Rescues Surfer, Three Beach Patrol Swimmers

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Coast Guard officials say three Ocean City Beach Patrol members and a surfer are rescued after getting stuck in an inlet.

The rescue happened July Fourth around noon.

According to the Coast Guard,  a call came in from the Ocean City Communications Center about a storm current that carried the surfer into an inlet. Three beach patrol swimmers went to help the surfer, but got stuck as well.
The Coast Guard dispatched two boats that were in the area for a training exercise, and the four people were rescued.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Peter Tomlin of Coast Guard Station Ocean City said the waves on Friday were larger than usual because of Hurricane Arthur farther up the coast.
