SALISBURY, Md.- The Delmarva Shorebirds struck first, but couldn't sustain their lead as they fell to the Lakewood BlueClaws on Sunday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury.
Chance Sisco collected three hits, including a triple in the first inning, raising his batting average to a league high .344. A single from Austin Wynns plated Cisco the following at bat for a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.
After being held scoreless by Delmarva starter Luc Rennie for three innings, the BlueClaws broke through in the fourth, tying the game with a two out double from Zach Green. The Lakewood first baseman wasn't finished, as his two-run single in the sixth gave the Blueclaws a 3-1 lead. Left fielder Mitch Walding continued the inning with a two-run shot to left to push the lead to 5-1.
Rennie exited the game in the sixth and would eventually take the loss, having allowed 5 earned runs over the 5.2 innings worked.
Late runs from each team would lead to the final score line of 6-2.
Delmarva now prepares for a three game series with the West Virginia Power, opening at 7:05 p.m. Monday in Salisbury.
