GREENWOOD, Del.- A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries following a Sunday night crash on US 13 south of Greenwood, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers said that at approximately 9:20 p.m. a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck operated by Charles Lofland, 66, of Seaford, and a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by John Hodgson, 67, of Millsboro, were both traveling south in the left lane of US 13 just south of Cart Branch Road.
Investigators said that for reasons currently unknown, the motorcycle struck the left rear of the pickup, before losing control, falling to the ground, and ejecting Hodgson. The pickup was able to pull to a controlled stop in the grass median.
Police said Hodgson, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was then flown to Christiana Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition. Lofland and the three adult passengers in the pickup were all properly restrained and uninjured, authorities said.
US 13 south of Cart Branch Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Master Cpl. J. Burns at (302) 644-5020, ext. 112.
