OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Beach Patrol will hold its Captain Robert S. Craig Annual Boardwalk Swim and Ginny Craig Quarter Mile Boardwalk Swim on July 12 at 14th Street and the Boardwalk to commemorate its former leader, according to officials.

Craig commanded the OCBP for 52 years and altered hiring and requirement obligations, according to authorities. During his time with the OCBP, Craig required completed applications, physical tests and extended education for all new recruits.

The Captain Robert S. Craig Annual Boardwalk Swim is a mile in length and finishes in the same area as the Ginny Craig Quarter Mile Boardwalk Swim, the OCBP said.

During the competitions, guards will monitor the races on the beach and in the water to protect its participants, the OCBP said.

All racers will receive a free t-shirt and the first three finishers in each category will receive a certificate, according to officials. Participants who finish the mile race will also qualify to enter the town’s first Swim Ocean City event.

The event costs $20 for those who sign up before July 9 and $25 for those who sign up the day of the race, officials say. Participants must still check in and fill out papers before the event.

For more information or to register for the event, visit www.ococean.com/ocbp.
