HARTLY, Del.- A Hartly man with eight previous DUI convictions was arrested for his ninth offense DUI on Sunday afternoon, according to Delaware State Police.

Authorities said that at around 3:30 p.m. Dale A. Guifoil, 51, was attempting to leave a yard sale on the 900 block of Myers Drive when he experienced mechanical issues with his truck, which had broken down in the driveway.

Police said a trooper was dispatched to the home, and while speaking with Guifoil, who was seated in the driver seat of the truck, noticed an odor of alcohol and began a DUI investigation.

Following the investigation, Guifoil was taken into custody on multiple charges and transported to Troop 3, where police said an inquiry into his driving record revealed the eight previous DUIs, dating back to July 1993 and as recently as December 2009. This arrest would make number nine, police said.

Guifoil was charged with felony DUI (alcohol), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (oxycodone), driving while suspended or revoked, failure to have insurance in possession, fictitious registration, and operation of an unregistered motor vehicle. He was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,650 secured bond.
