RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Corrections is switching health care providers after its old service ended its contract, according to officials.

Corizon Health, Inc., the VADOC’s previous provider since May 2013, broke its contract June 2 and gave the department 120 days to find a new company, officials said.

The VADOC will start using Armor Correctional Health Services, Inc., Oct. 1, according to officials. The new service is based in Miami.

The VADOC said Armor Correctional will provide health care to approximately 15,000 inmates in 17 facilities until a long-term contract is made.
