SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly stole prescription medication and cash from a woman before assaulting her at the Temple Hill Motel in Salisbury.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, a deputy responded to the Temple Hill Motel for the report of someone who had just stolen something from a guest in one of the rooms.

Upon arrival, the deputy learned from the victim that she had caught a man who had stayed in her room overnight, Joseph Keith Ireland, 24, of Salisbury, in possession of her purse when she walked out of the bathroom, investigators said.

According to the victim, Ireland pushed her down as he left the room. The victim discovered cash and a prescribed medication, suboxone, missing from her purse, officials said.

The deputy located Ireland walking on South Salisbury Boulevard, north of Bateman Street, and subsequently discovered him in possession of suboxone that matched what the victim stated was stolen, police said.

The deputy placed Ireland under arrest for CDS possession, theft under $100 and second-degree assault. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.
