Energizer Moving More Production to Dover Facility

Posted:
DOVER, Del. - An international consumer goods company announced plans Tuesday to close its facility in Montreal, Canada, and consolidate production into the company's Dover facility.

Energizer Holdings said its feminine care facility in Montreal, which manufactures the Stayfree and Carefree brands, will be closed by early 2017 as part of a restructuring program. Consolidation into the Dover facility, which also makes feminine care products including the Playtex brand, will occur in phases beginning in the summer of 2015.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision to maintain the company's position in this highly competitive business," said Energizer Personal Care President and COO David Hatfield, adding the company will work with local officials to ensure resources are made available to help workers re-enter the labor market.

Energizer Holdings said 430 people are currently employed at the Montreal facility, with another 475 employees working at the Dover location. There is currently no word on how many new jobs will be created in Delaware, or if the physical plant will need to be expanded to accommodate the added production.

"We offered no incentives," said Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen. "I think they looked at the economics of closing their plant in Montreal and felt that Dover was the place to put it. I'm glad they had the good sense to do it."
