Emerald City School (ECS) announced it will commence operations for its first school year this September. The school is located downtown near the booming South Lake Union area, and offers individualized, evidence-based instruction for students with learning disabilities.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 13, 2014

ECS is being founded by Seattle businessman Ken Woolcott, who commented, As a parent of a special needs child, I have become keenly aware of the underserved need in the Seattle community for contemporary special education resources and evidence-based instruction. Emerald City School will provide an important alternative to students and families in the Seattle metro area that are looking for the best practices and environment for special education. We welcome the opportunity to serve our community and families.

Emerald City School presently provides instruction in grades 1 through 6 for students who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities such as dyslexia (reading), dysgraphia (writing), and dyscalculia (math). The school is also designed to meet the needs of children with attention challenges (ADHD, ADD), executive functioning difficulties (problems with planning, organizing, strategizing, paying attention, and remembering), and autism at the mild end of the autistic spectrum. The ECS mission is to provide children with learning disabilities the support, care, and instruction they need to reach their full potential and to become life-long learners.

Head of School, Jeremy Turner, provides a wealth of experience in special education and adds, As someone who has built and run programs for students with learning disabilities around the world, I am incredibly excited about this new community resource. We aspire to an intimate understanding of our students and what is needed for future academic and life success. Our approach is tailored to meet the needs of the students and is grounded in the most current evidence-based research and practices.

Classes at Emerald City School will begin Wednesday, September 3, 2014. The school is located at 520 Denny Way in Seattle in brand new facilities in the shadow of the Space Needle.
