Online Gambling Brings Little Revenue to Delaware

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's first fiscal year of online gambling has fallen well short of its target of $5 million in revenue.

The News Journal reports the venture brought in little cash for the state and none for Delaware's casinos.

Since the nation's first online gaming platform with video lottery and table games rolled out in November, online gambling has brought in $1.2 million. The state's return after startup and vendor fees came to $318,000.

Casino and state officials say there have been challenges with unfamiliar brands, technology issues and a low-gambling population.

The projection for fiscal year 2015 calls for $3.3 million in online gaming revenue. But that's still not enough for casinos to make money. The state collects 100 percent of the first $3.75 million in revenue in a year.
