Burglary Suspect Dies After Fleeing Seaford Police

SEAFORD, Del.- Seaford police say a burglary suspect who tried to elude officers by jumping into the Nanticoke River over the weekend has died.

Police said 19-year-old Justin M. Johnson, of Seaford, died Tuesday at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital from complications due to drowning.
   
According to police, Johnson broke away from officers as he was being handcuffed last Friday near Cannon Street.
   
Police said Johnson then entered the river and disappeared under water. Nearly 40 minutes later, he was pulled from the water by a fire department dive team and had been hospitalized in critical condition and undergoing treatment for respiratory impairment.
