First Annual Recycled Cardboard Boat Regatta

Posted: Updated:

BLADES, Del. – The first annual Recycled Cardboard Boat Regatta will happen this August in Delaware.

According to the state Department of Natural Resources, the regatta will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Nanticoke River Public Marine Park on 26 N. Market St.

DNREC said the regatta is open to anyone who can build a boat from recycled cardboard and paddle it 200 yards. There will be first place awards in four different categories: individual, family, youth groups, and clubs and businesses.

The cardboard regatta on the Nanticoke provides the opportunity to share techniques that will help residents reduce nutrient and sediment pollution entering nearby waterways, according to DNREC.

Early registration fee is $20 per boat, day of sign-ups are $30 a boat.
