DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware have scheduled a DUI checkpoint as well as roving saturation patrols this weekend.

According to officials with the state Office of Highway Safety, the checkpoint is being held Friday night in Wilmington and will be conducted by the New Castle County DUI Task Force.

Delaware State Police Troop 3 will also be saturating Kent County with roving patrols cracking down on impaired drivers this weekend.

Officials said that last week 80 people were arrested for DUI in Delaware, bringing the total DUI arrests statewide for 2014 to 2,149. Of the 62 fatal crashes this year, 39 percent were alcohol-related, according to officials.

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, by using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six-month-long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
