Delmarva Shorebirds Lose to Hagerstown Suns After Ninth Inning Run
The Delmarva Shorebirds lose to the Hagerstown Suns 5-4 Sunday evening in Salisbury, Md.
SALISBURY, Md.– The Delmarva Shorebirds lost on Sunday evening as Hagerstown posted a late-inning rally for a 5-4 final score. Delmarva (54-46, 16-15) squandered a 4-2 lead as the Suns scored three unanswered runs down the stretch, including the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning.
Shorebirds’ pitcher Mitch Horacek started the game off by striking out 4 batters in the first inning and didn’t give Hagerstown a run until the fifth, officials say.
In the third inning, both Drew Dosch and Creede Simpson made runs with RBI singles, bringing the score to 2-0.
Hagerstown then tied the game in the fifth inning with a shortstop error and a two-run double, officials say.
Shorebirds’ catcher Austin Wynns brought Delmarva back into the lead with a two-run single, making the score 4-2. The Shorebirds would not make another run for the rest of the night.
The Suns hit a home run in the sixth inning and an RBI double in the eighth inning to tie the score 4-4.
The Suns’ Isaac Ballou ran home on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to take the lead and the game.
The Shorebirds play the Suns Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
