Md. Police Arrest Two in Car Theft

Posted:

BERLIN, Md.– Maryland State Police say two people were arrested Monday evening near Berlin after they were found driving a stolen car from New York.

Police arrested and charged Rachael L. Wilson, 29, of Laurel, Md., and Steven J. Erby, 43, of Seat Pleasant, Md., after stopping the stolen 2005 Hyundai Elantra.

Troopers said they discovered the car when it drove through an automatic license plate reader on westbound Route 90 and Route 113. The plate reader confirmed the car was stolen from Plattsburgh, N.Y., on July 17, according to police.

After pulling the suspects over, police said they found Wilson, the driver, and Erby, the passenger, were wanted on numerous warrants.

Wilson was wanted in Howard County for failing to appear in court for unauthorized property removal, police said.

Erby was wanted in Charles County for failing to appear in court for theft-related charges and Howard County for failing to appear in court for theft-related charges and giving a police officer a false statement, according to police. This is in addition to identity theft charges he faces from the stolen car investigation.

Both Wilson and Erby are being held in the Worcester County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
