DETROIT, July 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Access for All apprenticeship readiness program is designed to recruit, screen, assess, select and train City of Detroit residents to compete successfully for entry into registered apprenticeship training programs in six building and construction trades: laborers, operating engineers, iron workers, cement masons, carpenters, and electricians. The program is a partnership among Detroit building and construction trades unions and a consortium of public and private entities. The first trainees in this vigorous program will graduate on July 24 at a ceremony to be held at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324 in Detroit (1550 Howard). Featured speakers will include:
WHAT: Celebration honoring first graduating class of Access for All apprenticeship readiness students. This project was privately funded by a grant from the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund (DRWF). The DRWF is operated by United Way for Southeastern Michigan and includes public and private investors: the Knight Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, Jobs for the Future and the U.S. Department of Labor, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Skillman Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, JP Morgan Chase Global Philanthropy, and the Michigan Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives.
Dates for the second class of apprenticeship readiness training to be announced; recruitment to begin immediately following the graduation celebration.
