SHA: Drivers Should Prepare for Bridge Painting and Cleaning in Md

Posted:
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. - The Maryland State Highway Administration will start a project on Friday to paint and clean several bridges on the Eastern Shore.

The work will begin Friday, July 25 on five bridges in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties. Officials say the work will occur seven days-a-week during daytime hours only and is expected to be complete by mid-August, weather permitting.

The SHA says drivers should see painting crews on site at each of the bridges Friday through Sunday, July 25-27, setting up equipment and doing prep work at each of the five locations. SHA says no lane closures or detours will be required, but all staging areas for equipment will be on the shoulders for each bridge maintenance project.

Officials say the cleaning and painting, primarily on the structural steel underneath the roadways, will be done on the following bridges:

Somerset County - MD 413 (Crisfield Highway) over the Big Annemessex River just north of Marion Station.  Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily.

Wicomico County - Two bridges on US 13 Northbound and Southbound at the crossing of MD 12 (Snow Hill Road) at Nutters Crossing. Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
-MD 353 (Gumboro Road) Northbound and Southbound over Aydelotte Branch just south of Rounds Road  in the Town of Pittsville.  Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily.

Worcester County - MD 12 (Snow Hill Road) Northbound and Southbound over Nassawango Creek just west of Old Furnace Road. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily.

Officials say these sites are the first five of a total of 10 bridges in the three counties that will be cleaned and painted in the three lower Eastern Shore Counties this year.  The total contract for the maintenance work for all of the bridges is $1,025,400 and was awarded to Reglas Painting and Construction in Baltimore, Md.

Early this fall SHA will announce the locations and work hours for the remaining five bridges to be repainted in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties.
