Lightning Blamed for Cambridge House Fire

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- A lightning strike caused a house in Cambridge to catch fire Wednesday night, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The one-and-a-half story wood frame house was struck by lightning on its roof at around 11:38 p.m. A neighbor spotted the fire and called the fire department.

The Neck District, Rescue, and Church Creek fire departments arrived at the scene, as 40 firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before putting the flames down.

There were no reported injuries, but structure damage was estimated to be $250,000. Content damage was estimated to be around $50,000.
