CAPE CHARLES, Va. - In response to Thursday's tragic storm that ripped through the Cherrystone Family Camping and RV Resort, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore sent help to the Norrthampton High School emergency shelter, by supplying food, linens, and blankets to those who sought refuge there.

The food bank says they anticipate the need for continued support to families in the community.

"We know that the effects will be longer lasting than today for those who have lost power and sustained damage to their homes," said Renee Figurelle, Chief Operating Officer of the Foodbank. "Every day, we serve our neighbors in need, and we sincerely appreciate the donations the community provides that allow us be there for those who are struggling."

If anyone affected by the disaster needs any replacement food supplies, they are asked to contact the Foodbank office in Tasley, VA at 757-787-2557. Those who wish to donate food or funds can do so by calling, dropping off between 8:00am and 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, or giving online. The Food Bank says that for every $10 received, the Food bank can distribute up to $60 worth of grocery products.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has been providing food for those facing hunger since 1981. Thy says through fiscal year 2014, they have distributed nearly 227 million meals throughout the service area, which includes the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin, and Virginia Beach as well as the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight, and Accomack.
