SHARPTOWN, Md.- A Delmar, Del. man has been arrested after going to a Maryland State Police barrack to report he had been in an accident.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said that shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday a deputy clocked 23-year-old Denzel Antonio Brown driving 94 mph in a 50 mph zone on Laurel Road heading toward Sharptown.

The deputy tried to stop Brown, but lost sight of the car he was in as Brown accelerated. According to the sheriff's office, the deputy continued into Sharptown and found the speeding vehicle crashed at the dead end at the river on Main Street.

Officials said the driver was not in the car. The deputy discovered the car was unregistered and uninsured, police said.

Authorities said the deputy found the driver, identified as Brown, after he walked into a state police barrack to report he had been involved in an accident in Sharptown.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with speeding, attempt to flee and elude, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. He was ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bond.
