HICKORY, N.C. – The Delmarva Shorebirds lost their fifth straight game Tuesday, falling to the Hickory Crawdads 10-4.
With a grand slam and additional run in the first inning, the Crawdads brought the score to 5-0, officials say. The team’s second baseman Travis Demeritte took his home run lead to 21.
Crawdads player Luis Marte gave the team three more runs in the third inning, according to officials. The Shorebirds took their pitcher, Nick Cunningham, out in the fourth inning after two batters made runs, bringing the score to 10-1.
Shorebirds player Anthony Vega hit his first home run on the team in the seventh inning and Gregory Lorenzo hit a single to bring in two more runs in the eighth, officials say. With no runs in the ninth inning, the Crawdads took the win 10-4.
The Shorebirds have lost nine out of their last 10 games, according to Shorebirds officials. The team will play the Lakewood BlueClaws at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury.
