Police: Driver Dies Before Crash Near Prime Hook Beach

Updated:
MILFORD, Del.– A man is believed to have died behind the wheel of his pickup truck before crashing into a pole on the side of the road near Prime Hook Beach on Tuesday afternoon, according to Delaware State Police.

Michael L. Indellini, 56, of Townsend, Del., was driving northbound on Cods Road just north of Prime Hook Road at around 2 p.m. when he exited to the east before hitting a pole in the grass area, police said. The pole then snapped in half and the 1995 Ford F-150 traveled an additional 13 feet before coming to rest against the damaged pole, investigators said.

Troopers said there was no obvious trauma or injury to Indellini and a preliminary investigations suggests a sudden-onset medical condition. Police said Indellini was properly restrained in the vehicle and drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Police sent Indellini's body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Troopers closed Cods Road between Prime Hook and 13 Curves roads for three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
