Lexington had Highest Jobless Rate in June


RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The city of Lexington had the highest jobless rate in Virginia in June.

The Virginia Employment Commission says the city's seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate was 11.4 percent. That's up from 10.4 percent in May and down from 11.9 percent a year ago.

The statewide rate for June was 5.4 percent.

Nationally, the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for June was 6.3 percent. Rates dropped from last year in 359 metropolitan areas, increased in 10 and were flat in three.

Arlington County had Virginia's lowest jobless rate with 3.6 percent in June.

The Danville region had the highest unemployment rate among Virginia's metropolitan regions at 7.8 percent.

The Washington metropolitan region that includes Arlington and Alexandria had the lowest rate of 4.5 percent.
