WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. (WBOC)- K-9s at the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office are now equipped with two life-saving heat alarms, thanks to a donation from the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club Charitable Trust.

The Ace K9 heat alarms, valued at $1,302 each, monitor the temperature inside the patrol vehicle. They activate the lights, siren and roll down the windows in the event the temperature exceeds the safe level for K9 patrol units.

Salisbury Kennel Club Charitable Trust President Julia Crawford said the money for the alarms was raised through their spring dog walk event, as well as donations from the public.

“This is the most recent need that has been expressed,” Crawford said about the alarms, “I think anything we can do to help the men in the county and the state protect these animals is important.”

The Sheriff’s Office said it genuinely appreciates the purchase of these invaluable pieces of equipment by citizens that support the Sheriff’s K9 group.

Since its formation, the Trust has also provided safety vests for K9s across the state.
